Lions of Carnival

i don’t recall a particular point in time
it’s a gradual growing apart your way and mine
must have found a way through the back door
somehow we often find or leave each other wanting more

but nobody’s always guided right
and the world more ways divided
cause everyone’s been saying so long
“i’m right and you’re wrong”

don’t leave it to the lions
won’t you trust yourself out loud
cause you’re the one who’s gonna have to look down
if they don’t feed me to the fire
you can find me in the clouds
but i won’t look back on the road i didn’t go down

how different our direction from the plan
lower the stakes we live and learn to understand
but it must have wound up static in between
and everything that’s moving in my head
winds up reminding me

that the story’s not one sided
you can wish the world wasn’t so divided
but i can only fake it for so long if i’m right and you’re wrong

the road i didn’t go down
i left the lions at the carnival ground

and then one afternoon you’re on your way
we’re all so different but we’re all the same
i’m sure the lions aren’t gone for good
don’t look back if you did all you could
i guess the lions must have gotten you
i didn’t get it then but now i do
not want to waste more time on doubt
if i hold true or sell out
its not about the clouds at all
if you never try then you can’t fall
no you can’t fall

if they don’t feed you to the fire can i find you in the clouds
‘cause i won’t look back on the road i didn’t go down
i left the lions at the carnival ground
learning you can trust yourself out loud
