Ordinary Over Epic Lyrics

Lyrics

1. where you are

hey you, don’t let it walk away
don’t treat it like nobody
it’s all you’ve got to say
it only comes around if you’re lucky enough to notice it there
brave enough to care
with all of these people turning lights out
i know it ain’t fair

but don’t walk through like you’re sleeping
i wonder where you are
walk through like you’ve been mistreated
and still you’ve come far

say you don’t get a chance to say
no, don’t meet the right somebody
and all you’ve stored and saved
could have easily been spent or given away too
i know you’re there
you’re brave enough to care
even with all of these people turning lights out
i know you’ll get there

don’t you walk through

walk the water that’s covering all the seas
i’d swim a million just to bring you back to me
i wonder where you are
somehow you feel so far from me
well you’re tired inside and down on your knees
burning at both ends
doing this again and again…
if you walk through like you’re sleeping
well we all have been mistreated my friend
i wonder where you are
and why you feel so far

2. ordinary over epic

something i can’t lie about
something i can’t create
something’s getting closer to the light
i don’t fall for an artificial synthetic faith or television trend at night

i choose ordinary over epic
that’s the real thing we’ve got
fantastic on paper in person i am not

and for all that i’m wrong
the brighter it gets
we are only as strong
as all the flaws we let on

someone tells it like it is
someone sings out of key
someone gets me closer to the light
even if i miss a happy ending occasionally

i choose ordinary over epic
it’s the only thing i got
so damn good in pictures but as people we are not
and for all that i’m wrong still no regret
we are only as strong as all the flaws we let on
i know the more that i’m wrong so high and so low
i’ve been wrong before i know i been wrong before i know

3. faster

used to be a feeling that you looked for
used to be sunlight would shine right through
but you cannot see your way through tear drops
cause everything looks different than before
and i can’t sing about you anymore

how long is worth waiting
when the clouds won’t open up or let you in
going home to a world sheltered safe and far away
how can i begin to catch my breath
when all i ever do is chase all that’s falling by faster

everything grows out of your control
you’re lost in all the things you’ll never know
oh everything grows out of your control
and you’re always going where i shouldn’t go
(you’re falling by faster • what would it matter • you’re falling by faster • for all that you’re after)

for all its worth if you’re falling forever
i never stand a chance
hard as i try
how could it be that bad to wait a while and why
would you call it disaster
i don’t think window watchers are any different
i don’t think they know you’re falling by faster

well i won’t
cause i should have known
the things you think they grow they grow
so far out of your control
when your feeling that
nobody has a way for you and there’s no where to go
well i said no break your heart i won’t
but the more i tried i realized it was broken long ago
you’re falling by faster

4. the builder

like a hideout in a hurricane
and how i’ve grown to loose
i longed for some forever faith
but leave it to forever fools
so many people look for more
more than a good day
some get a night light oh some of you won’t
some of us luck enough to stay

for these wheels to bend or break
i’ll have to be dead wrong

may the chariots blow away and everyone will find that they
only have each other to blame
the dry ground where they stood all day is a flood
you’ll face the rain or run for cover

now me i’m not gonna wait
i’ll waste my birthdays for the betweens
cause long as a memory serves
falling leaves an opportunity
to lay down all my train tracks
to build a lullaby
and ride the first winds of winter
never looking back

are you ever gonna face the rain

so we thought with our best of walks
still we’ve grown to loose
we longed for some forever faith yeah
but turned into running fools
we’re built for getting beyond a good day
but buildings make that hard
to see your night light so good so sure and so far
some of us well we don’t want it no more

for these wheels to bend or break we’ll have to be dead gone

you’ll face the rain, face the rain or run for cover
but i promise you
before these wheels will bend and break
everyone one will find that they only have each other

5. feet and bones

i look around and there’s nothing left
i’ll never leave my last breath
while the feet and bones of my body do their best
won’t hold on to my last breath

easy optimistic we have the wind at our back
can keep it all inside we don’t ever have to keep track
count on tomorrow to bring better weather everyday all your life
leave it up to some one else or just leave it all inside

careful and we’re cautious we never let it get that close
heard of holding out for the right time but we hold on more than most
to the future
to the forecast
and the rest of your life
they claim it gets better so hold out forever and just keep it all inside

i stood at a stop light and waited for hours
for a spirit to move me nothing ever came
if it’s the greatest mistake that i make i’m gonna own it
cause i wont hold on to it this time the same
cause who’s got time to wait for the weather to change

hide my tricks up my sleeve i would not be too cautious
to give what you’ve got the feet and the bones of your body
do their best gonna breathe out ‘till there’s nothing else left
won’t hold on to my last breath

6. good to me

stow away on a sinking ship
tell me that’s not overly tragic it’s true
and so are you addicted to and from this cursed search
maybe i never will
but maybe i already do
maybe i already do

won’t go away and it will not be new
you’re tempted to tell me you told me so
but you don’t you’ve grown up too
intriguing to me how she lets it go
maybe i already have
or maybe i just don’t know how to

and if i don’t look for more
stars shooting across the earth are no good to me
cause i won’t catch what falls anymore

oh my city your chimney howling loud
convenience congestion in pushing for progress
i keep falling down
it’s soot that we breathe buy and sell
far as i can tell
i say you make your own way out or you get made

maybe i like believing things will come true
until it push me down backwards and fold me in two
revealing the good it can do
cause you can push right back and you’ll find that
it’ll be good to you

if you don’t look for more then you won’t know for sure

7. your gravity

fish out of water don’t believe in what you see
take them if they’re offered chances are rare but they are free
and sometime later find you’re feeling better all around
this world of strangers feels like ordinary ground

but i believed a woman supposed to set my soul at ease
just goes to figure believing in all I’d seen
and sometime after I found looking doesn’t ever find me any faster
just takes all of my time

there you go too much speed
never slow down and you don’t seem so
worried that you’re getting the better of me
never slow down what’s the matter can’t you fight your gravity

so do you keep treading water when you don’t believe in the sea
or give it if you got it good love is rare but its free
cause some time later
however long it takes to find your peace to live in
just don’t take all of mine

oh we never know
never slow down and it never seems so
worried that it’s getting the better of me
never slow down
what’s the matter can’t we fight this gravity

8. wanted to

is there a place we can go
no one would ever know
disappear in the darkness

sit and talk we can move
anything you can choose
long as we get out of here

there’s nothing to loose
what would you do

i choose the only thing i wanted to
oh you know i wanted to

every dream you drive me wild
a street we ride for miles
in the morning i’ll miss you

anything that i’ve known
you make all of it go
don’t care as long as you come back soon

i’ve been around this place enough
i know below i know above
anything can happen
it’s all i gotta do to get to you
nothing to loose
i’ll never make you choose the only thing you want
cause all our time spent trying to find a balance
as it all unwinds simple things become a challenge
for all that i try in seeing this through
i can’t change your mind
though I wanted
you know i wanted to

i’ve always wanted you

9. automatic everything

past automatic everything america provides me
drop me outside of town this time please i can walk
sticking to your guns gets you nothing but the same fun
and they’re always talking the talk
i’d rather take the long way and find what’s to change

where all our ambition won’t let us down
all the things we should be doing
wont’ walk away
won’t walk out

singing i don’t expect a free ride no i don’t expect a free ride
cause they promise what they cannot provide
i don’t expect a free ride no i don’t expect

if you run up to the top without a place you can stop along the way
thinking that’s just what i need this time to say “i’m alright”
forever in our heads we’re selling stories to the same friends
we’re always giving it the good fight
i’d still take the long way if i could do it again tonight

where all our expectation won’t turn us down
all the things we could be doing
won’t walk away
won’t walk out

so much more than you ever thought you could spare
‘cause sometimes small steps won’t get you there
it’d have to be so much more of a problem ‘til we care
still i don’t expect a free ride there

but i thought it could change

so all this ambition don’t let me down
all the things I could be
oh my country
where are you now
not quite where you said you’d be
all our expectations all turned around
automatic everything you could be doing
don’t walk away from it
don’t walk out
cause you’ll never get a free ride

10. all you’re after

getting good
at making things harder than i should
going wrong
going going gone
i don’t want to complicate but i make short stories long
i don’t want to complicate but i can’t turn this off

anywhere i’m traveling
the stations out of trains and i can’t get in can’t get to you
leaving
leave it alone
i don’t want hesitate cause i got something to show
i don’t want sit and wait cause I already know

all you’re after all it takes
cause you’re not afraid to try
to move a mountain
to make the rain
to prove that you are right

catching on
thought I could’ve caught on sooner to you
keeping open and untied just won’t get me through
i relied on
nothing going wrong
but nothing ever happened collected cool and calm
nothing’s gonna happen if i don’t keep this turned on

singing all you’re gonna find
all you’re after all you try
another day will rise up and the sun still shines
just like it did before

all you’re after all it takes
cause you’re not afraid to try
to move a mountain
to ride the wind are you just that good
or too afraid to prove you’re right

11. lions of carnival

i don’t recall a particular point in time
it’s a gradual growing apart your way and mine
must have found a way through the back door
somehow we often find or leave each other wanting more

but nobody’s always guided right
and the world more ways divided
cause everyone’s been saying so long
“i’m right and you’re wrong”

don’t leave it to the lions
won’t you trust yourself out loud
cause you’re the one who’s gonna have to look down
if they don’t feed me to the fire
you can find me in the clouds
but i won’t look back on the road i didn’t go down

how different our direction from the plan
lower the stakes we live and learn to understand
but it must have wound up static in between
and everything that’s moving in my head
winds up reminding me

that the story’s not one sided
you can wish the world wasn’t so divided
but i can only fake it for so long if i’m right and you’re wrong

the road i didn’t go down
i left the lions at the carnival ground

and then one afternoon you’re on your way
we’re all so different but we’re all the same
i’m sure the lions aren’t gone for good
don’t look back if you did all you could
i guess the lions must have gotten you
i didn’t get it then but now i do
not want to waste more time on doubt
if i hold true or sell out
its not about the clouds at all
if you never try then you can’t fall
no you can’t fall

don’t leave it to the lions
won’t you trust yourself out loud
cause you’re the one who’s gonna have to look down
if they don’t feed you to the fire can i find you in the clouds
‘cause i won’t look back on the road i didn’t go down
i left the lions at the carnival ground
learning you can trust yourself out loud

12. wind and the woods

josephine she heard it all the time
learned to ignore it but then like a creeping vine
when you realize the tangle’s much more
there’s no way to fake the fight that you’re in for

but faking don’t sound that good
stand your ground long as it can be stood
you know the wind and the woods
the wind and the woods
see that the wind and the woods
never had to agree

no never had to agree

routine like rain that falls when you try opening
doors locked so long rusted shut no recovering
when you run you’re ignored if you stay even more
you can never fake the fight that you’re in for

but faking don’t sound that good
josephine stood her ground long as it could be
believing the wind and the woods
the wind and the woods
see that the wind and the woods

never had to agree
anywhere you can find sing there’s nothing to hide

any where that you can find
people wait at the wall where they’re singing
“there’s nothing to hide”
made up my mind
she said “i sure as hell won’t let anyone else define”
the wind and the woods; never mind
gonna stand up and keep myself singing
she said “i’m gonna keep singing cause i just can’t hide”
“no no no i just can’t hide”
she stood all of her ground with no one around
i make all of my sound
i finally found out the wind and the woods
oh josephine they never have to agree

anywhere you can find, sing there’s nothing to hide
anywhere you can find, sing that you won’t hide
made up my mind josephine, i’m gonna keep singing
it’s just the wind and the woods if you did all you could
doesn’t matter to me they don’t have to agree
doesn’t matter no it don’t matter it won’t
doesn’t matter to me they don’t have to believe
they don’t have to agree

we’re gonna keep singing
